About me

My Coaching Journey

I was able to see that across my career, I have always loved supporting people to be great and realised that coaching was always a passion I wanted to follow. Even as a nurse manager, I promoted and encouraged a holistic approach to care. My community skills, managerial experience and mental health background allowed me to support individuals and teams to make the change they needed to reach their full potential. I did not realize that I was coaching all this time.

Coaching as a Health Care Professional

Utilizing other holistic therapies like counselling equipped me to challenge my clients to take risks, responsibility and opportunities. I am aware that it is not always possible to use a coaching approach in mental health, and sometimes it may not be appropriate. What was important, however, was being a good listener and connecting with my clients where they were. Through our work together they often fed back that they enjoyed increased confidence and were inspired and motivated to achieve their goals and dreams.

Empowering others

As I look back over the years, I had been coaching all along, fostering a safe environment for others and helping them to find a way forward as they lived their lives in keeping with their value.

I was nominated and rewarded the staff excellence award for outstanding contribution towards the advancement of patient care. I was commended for exceptional ability and skill to engage patients particularly in dialogue and group work.

As a manager I led the team in the implementation of safer wards initiatives, resulting in both staff and clients working collaboratively to understand the presenting behaviour of the client and then negotiating the way forward to manage the behaviour safely and effectively.

As my client felt more connected and valued, their trust increased and they would often request for me to attend their CPA meetings, their ward review meetings, their patient forum meetings and even meeting with their advocate (only at client's request).

As a coach I continue to invite my clients to stretch beyond their comfort zone and challenge their assumptions, limiting beliefs and perspectives to elicit new insights and possibilities.
